There is a beautiful story that illustrates the principle of the biblical exhortation “Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives”. (1 Peter 3:1)
A drunkard husband, spending the evening with his companions at a pub, boasted that if he took a group of his friends home with him at midnight and asked his Christian wife to get up and cook supper for them, she would do it without complaint. The crowd thought he was bluffing and dared him to try it. So they followed him home, and he made the unreasonable demands of his wife. She came down and prepared a very nice supper and served it as cheerfully as if she had been expecting them.
After supper one of the men asked her how she could be so kind when they had been so unreasonable and when she did not approve of their drunkenness. Her reply was: “Sir, when my husband and I were married, we were both sinners. Later on, I accepted Christ but my husband is still an unbeliever. I tremble for his future, as he would lost in hell if he were to die without Christ. So I think it is my duty to make his life on earth as comfortable as possible.” Not long after, her husband was saved.
May the love of God continue to build marriages and bring salvation to all.
