Pastor Joshua Lee was saved as a born-again Christian in Melbourne in 1977 while studying Accountancy at Monash University. He became part of the Malaysian Team initiated by visionary pastor Rev. Richard Holland, the founding pastor of Waverly Christian Fellowship (now called City Life Melbourne) who envisaged churches being planted all over Asia by their own people.A group of young Malaysians and Thai nationals were mentored by Ps Richard Holland, and later Dr Kevin Conner, in preparation of returning to their home countries. They received intense biblical training in the Word of God. In 1981, Pastor Jeremiah Yap was sent to plant New Life church in Malaysia, while Dr Kriengsak Chareonwongsak was sent to plant Hope of God church in Bangkok, Thailand. New Life and Hope churches have through the years impacted other nations for God through missions and church planting.
Joshua has a vision to build contemporary and vibrant churches relevant to the community. He is passionate about seeing cities and nations changed through the influence of high praise, intense worship and unceasing prayer. He delivers God’s messages in expository preaching in a down to earth manner often characterised by relevant illustrations and humour.Joshua was the first musician and worship leader of the first New Life church in Petaling Jaya which started off with just 6 members. New Life has since birthed many daughter churches in Malaysia and other parts of the world. In 1999, Joshua was ordained as a pastor & currently serves as a member of the pastoral team of the outreach church in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
Pastor David Tham met Jesus in 1977 during a Gospel musical in hometown Batu Pahat. He initially turned down all invitations to attend but a voice from heaven told him to go. At the musical, someone sang the song by Diana Ross “Do you know where you are going to?”. It caused him to think about the meaning of life. Then a man came up to give a closing message. Strangely what he said described all about what David was going through at that point of his life. Felt that God was speaking, he gave his heart to Jesus during the altar call. It turned out that he was the only soul saved that night out of 500 people there. Could it be that the entire musical was organised to save him? What followed was a series of divine encounters. Jesus showed up to him in vision and gave him dreams that spoke about his future ministry. As a young Christian, he was overwhelmed by those heavenly experiences. Subsequent years saw him receiving prophecies confirming his “calling”.
Pastor David joined New Life in 1981 when it first started as a house church. 9 years later, God birthed a vision in Pastor Jeremiah Yap & the leadership of New Life to plant churches – David and his wife Phebe who were then heading worship ministry in church as well as leading a home group in Shah Alam were chosen to pioneer the first daughter church.
Pastor David preaches passionately about seeing God’s Glory in our nation, city & church, winning as many people as possible to God’s kingdom. His vision is to see New Life Shah Alam blossom into a 1000-strong congregation (Isaiah 60:22), having outreaches in several townships & missions overseas. Off the pulpit & the stage, his efforts are focused at making disciples of young & old who will serve God whole-heartedly & passionately. The given mandate was to start attending bible-school training and also to pray for one year. But God kicked-open the doors soon after the 3rd month of praying. They met some ITM students & a student fellowship was started. In 6 months, the group grew to 18 students. Together with the adult home group, New Life Shah Alam was birthed in 1991.
As his Chinese name “Meng Kin” depicts building a glorious work, he will focus to “build something glorious for God that will become a legacy for others to continue”.
