A team of six(6) from LifeKids attended a Children Ministry Conference (CMC) in Surabaya that was organized by Gereja Mawar Sharon (founded by Rev. Philip Mantofa) on March 16-17, 2018.
Jing Jing: I went to CMC as ‘children minister’ and as ‘parent’. But felt that I came home as ‘anointed adult’. The speaker shared about the importance of adults especially parents in children’s lives like God’s pillars of cloud and fire for warmth, guidance and protection. Parents need to first and foremost be fervent with God. In their conversation with their children, parents need to talk about the reality of heaven and hell and how important it is to be baptised in the Holy Spirit regardless of age. The workshops are practical where their experience in parenting and practical tips. And it’s comforting to know that even pastors face the same challenges in parenting. I attended the crusade on both nights where they stressed the importance of being a parent. How God entrusted us parents to take care of our children who actually belong to Him and not us. How as parents we need to release them back unto God.
Things I take home from CMC:
1. I am the moral compass God uses to bring the children to Him. I need to have the highest standards, not double standard.
2. My children are my responsibility. Don’t depend on school/church to build their character or to nurture them.
3. Holy Spirit is my helper. I need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to the brim, to be so anointed so that others can get it. I receive the Holy Spirit not for myself but for my children and the generations after me.
4. Children need to know that God is their Father. That when parents fail, they can have direct access to the Father. When parents fail to be parents – pray to God to change them. When parents do well as parents- give thanks to God.
These are timely reminders, when things get overwhelming, God is still very very patient with us in our journey with Him, as God has hope in us that our children will walk in our faith footsteps as we walk faithfully with Him.
Li Ann: I am very glad that I was able to go for the CMC. The highlight of the conference was receiving a touch from the Holy Spirit. And I was glad to be able to witness God moving and ministering to children and their families. Truly the Holy Spirit can be at work even in young children. The problem isn’t children but adults and parents who think children can’t understand things of the spirit. We learned that spiritual hunger knows no age. It is important that children are taught about Salvation (they need to know about heaven and hell, so that they know what they are being saved from) and know about our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And just not in theory but also in encounters with God.
Children’s Church should be a place where children can meet with God. As parents/children ministers/teachers we are positioned to lead children to God. God wants us not to just tell children about Him but also to bring children to encounter Him.
However, before we can raise an anointed generation, we have to first become anointed parents/children ministers /teachers. We ourselves need to continually have encounters with God.
