I don’t know if you’ve stopped to think about it, but I think our God is amazing! Each and every one of His creations has such a diverse range of strengths and abilities, and yet all of us still carry something of our Father in us. The recent NLRC Sports Day is one such showcase of the diversity and the brilliance of our God. Over two (2) Saturdays, the men, women and children of NLRC shone brightly in friendly competition, amidst much laughter and excitement.
Six (6) sports were in play and even the children were not excluded from the shenanigans! On the first June Saturday’s menu, there were three (3) sports events running throughout the day. For bowling, apparently we do have some very skilled bowlers in our family, as it was a very close game between the Blue team and the White team. In futsal, there were some injuries, but thank God they weren’t serious and the game resumed once the injury was treated. Even the children, who had their telematch at the field outside 1 Utama, had so much fun! The little kids were enthusiastically playing tug-of-war and playing with the tissue-after-the-tissue game!
The golf game was held on 7th June, with the weather clearing up after a heavy morning downpour. And on the second Saturday in June, badminton and ping pong were the focus of the day. The ping pong event had a good mix of veteran and younger players, with some newbies whilst badminton had a few veteran and guest players. After the overall scores were totalled, Blue House emerged as the champion, followed by Red House, Green House and White House.
There were some funny distractions from the whole event. Some ping pong players spun themselves around trying to hit the ball instead of actually hitting the ball! Some macho golfers teed off from the guys side, only to have the ball land on the ladies’ side! One of the kids, whose favourite colour was yellow but was from the blue team, went straight for a yellow ball although he was supposed to be taking a blue one!
Surrounded by all the fun and laughter, the games clearly succeeded in drawing the NLRC family together. The running theme throughout the games was unity as Life Groups and friends turned up to cheer their support for the players and everyone had a great time fellowshipping. Although competition was fierce at times, it was put aside at the end of the games in favour of family bonds and relationships.
When asked last Sunday if we should have another Sports Day next year, the answer from the NLRC family was a resounding ‘YES!’ See you all next year!
