New year begins with a big bang, fireworks, parties, and joyful celebrations. We write resolutions. We dream and hope for many significant happenings. We pray for spiritual growth, extraordinary miracles, financial breakthroughs, improved health, healing from sickness, loving relationships, church ministry involvement and a lot more. This year is no different, right?
As I start 2019, reading from the book of Nehemiah, I made some observations. Nehemiah began to examine the ruins of the wall of Jerusalem, in the month of Kislev – the Gregorian autumn November-December month which is sometimes known as the month of dreams (for the Hebrews, it is the ksl month of hope and expectations). Nehemiah wept, fasted and prayed for the restoration of Jerusalem. His godly resolve so touched the King and won the King’s favour to proceed with the rebuilding of the wall. In record time, he and his team completed the wall after 52 days.
What struck me most is that Nehemiah had to overcome the opposition of Geshem, Sanballat and Tobiah (GST) who tried hard to mock and ridicule his dream plan. In the first part of Nehemiah 2:20, Nehemiah answered them by saying: “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding….” Nehemiah entered into God’s dream for him. He claimed God’s success for the restoration of God’s people. He and his team started to act on the passionate dream and hope of completing the wall. The devil had no share and no claim to God’s plan and purpose.
Let’s enter 2019 with the Lord and into God’s dream for us – “Kingdom Family Unlimited”. Let’s claim God’s success as we act on our mission for the year to “Enlarge our Tent” together.
…and He will give you success.
