(Editor’s Note: The following is the report from Brother Edward & Sister Sharon Tan’s LG DO GOOD Event on 13th April 2019.)
This Easter, New Life is encouraging all life groups (LGs) to have a Do Good Event for the month of April and May. When our Life Coach, Gary Liew told us this, our LG members started to look around for where to go this year.
One of our members, YL Wong, found out about a non-profit organization called Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Da Ai Malaysia, located at PJ Old Town. This Centre is a home for disabled and special needs individuals, providing care for those with autism, Downs Syndrome, cerebral palsy, visual impairment and other disabilities. Currently, the Centre looks after 25 handicapped and disabled children and adults, with only 5 helpers. Some of the residents of the home have been abandoned by their parents, whereas others have been left there to be cared for by the Centre as the parents themselves did not have the ability to care for them.
On the day of our Do Good event, we met with the manager of the home, Mr Lee, and bought KFC for the residents and helpers. Although we were aware that most of the residents could not fully understand or communicate with us, our LG felt the need to show love by singing songs of praise and worship and also praying for them. Almost all of our LG members were there for this special session and even as we interacted with some of the residents, we also prayed for the grace and love of God to touch their hearts.
The Centre relied mainly on public donations, with their social welfare application pending approval. Our LG managed to collect funds amounting to RM3,000 amongst ourselves and presented this as a love offering to the Centre.
We thank God for His providence that we are able to bless those less fortunate through this simple act of worship. We celebrate how Jesus Christ came to this earth, to die and rise again for a purpose and that we are to be the light and salt of this world wherever we are. Our prayer is that Do Good Event does not end after Easter, but will be a part of our daily lives, even as we see anyone in need. May God’s name continue to be glorified on earth as it is in heaven!
Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
