At the first Combined Service for our NLRC Churches in the Klang Valley I proclaimed the direction of our Group of Churches for the next 5 years into the year 2020. I perceive that God is leading us into greater realities of His power in His Kingdom. This was the way Jesus. From 2015 I am leading our New Life churches into KINGDOM LIFE.
Christian Life, church life and kingdom life are meant to be the same thing. However, over time and for various reasons, there are gaps between the life we live versus the life Jesus and the disciples lived. One prominent difference is in the element of God’s kingdom purpose. Jesus lived out God’s kingdom purpose and in it God empowered Him in life and ministry resulting in great historical and global impact. I sense God is heightening this awareness in Christians so that we too may live in that power of God in ministry and daily living, especially in the supernatural. Kingdom Life is that higher quality of heavenly life on earth.
Jesus said the works that He did we can do also, in fact greater works shall we do (Jn14:12). This has become a hard scripture and most choose to overlook it because it is not a reality for many in contemporary churches. In some circles, there is an unspoken resignation from things beyond the intellect and natural. Beware that when you aspire for realities of God’s power you may be accused of raising false hopes in people. Some churches are contented to have the Word without much power. Yet we all know God is awesome in power.
In these last days, when pressure against the church mounts and challenges are closing in with anti-biblical values, I felt the Lord wants to lift Christians and the church to a higher life of heavenly quality on earth. By this I am saying it is our portion to enjoy God’s life of heavenly availability and capacity. God’s plan is clear when we look at the Lord’s Prayer (Mat6:9-13). It is beyond a superstitious prayer ritual. When Jesus said to pray God’s kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, it is about more of heaven on earth. God wants to displace Satan’s dominion on earth so that all may live under His dominion of righteousness, peace and joy (Rom14:17).
This is attainable if we unlearn habits and thinking of our current Christianity, and shift our thinking back to the Bible worldview. Probably not recognising it, the world’s culture with a humanistic worldview has veiled us from being the disciples of spiritual authority like Jesus and the early disciples. If we excuse ourselves from being like them, we will defeat God’s purpose in sending Jesus to us as a human. As a man, Jesus lived and impacted the world in the power of the Holy Spirit, serving the kingdom. Some of His disciples were poor and unsophisticated fishermen. Yet they served God in purpose and in power like Jesus. Kingdom Life is in God’s kingdom purpose and power.
On 6 Jan 2015, I sent out to all Pastors the outline of my sermon on the Combined Sunday on the 4th. It is for members to use for their cell groups. In the training on 10 Jan 2015, I directed our Pastors and leaders to lead their churches to read the book of Matthew. For Kingdom Life, I asked that they teach from Matthew5-7. The next level of teaching is in the Kingdom parables from Matthew13. Knowing God’s Word is foundational for the renewal of the mind (Rom12:2) in kingdom thinking. We start with an intellectual knowledge of God’s kingdom. Then aim your life to be transformed by God’s authority and power in you, overcoming life’s challenges in personal and family life; and through you attract others to Jesus. This aim of ‘in you’ and ‘through you’ is not just a good Christian cliché. God really wants to rule earth from heaven through you. If you do not get this, you miss the purpose for which God created you. He made you in His image so that you present Him to the world.
This is an upgrade in thinking from merely asking God to renovate and make life better by His blessings and favour in what you need. God will do these. But He wants you to fully live in the purpose of your existence. The reason for your existence is not just for yourself but to live for Him as a kingdom people that will form His kingdom church. His will is His kingdom of heaven on earth.
The model of kingdom life is Jesus and His disciples. Measure your life using them as your yardstick. For that you need to read the Book of Matthew as a start.
